{"id":15956,"date":"2017-08-19T13:52:40","date_gmt":"2017-08-19T17:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/?p=15956"},"modified":"2017-08-21T11:56:48","modified_gmt":"2017-08-21T15:56:48","slug":"highlights-of-the-week-of-august-14-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/nl\/highlights-of-the-week-of-august-14-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlights of the Week of August 14, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear PGM Capital blog readers,<\/p>\n<p>In this weekend blog edition,\u00a0we want to discuss some of the most important events that happened in the global capital markets, the world economy and the world of money, in the week of August 14, 2017:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Palladium at 16.4-year high.<\/li>\n<li>Ping-An Insurance reported Block buster earnings and hikes it dividend with 150 percent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>PALLADIUM AT 16.5-YEAR HIGH:<\/h3>\n<p><b>Palladium<\/b>\u00a0is a\u00a0chemical element\u00a0with symbol\u00a0<b>Pd<\/b>\u00a0and atomic number 46 and it an extremely rare, silver-white Precious Metal with a relatively low melting point and low density.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/palladium_philippines.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15971\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/palladium_philippines-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/palladium_philippines-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/palladium_philippines.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Palladium,\u00a0platinum,\u00a0rhodium,\u00a0ruthenium,\u00a0iridium\u00a0and\u00a0osmium\u00a0form a group of elements referred to as the\u00a0platinum group\u00a0metals (PGMs). These have similar chemical properties, but palladium has the lowest melting point and is the least dense of them.<\/p>\n<p>As a naturally white Precious Metal, Palladium will keep its brilliant color for life.<\/p>\n<p>As \u00a0can be seen from below chart, in the week of August 14, the price for Palladium for September delivery rose US$ 30.50, or 3.41%, to close the week at US$$924.50 an ounce, which was the highest settlement since February 2001<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screen-Shot-2017-08-18-at-6.46.47-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" INSURANCE GROUP REPORTED BLOCK BUSTER EARNINGS:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On Friday, August 18 in the morning in Hong Kong,\u00a0Ping An Insurance, (2318.HK) China\u2019s second largest insurer in terms of market value, reported it H1-2017 financial results.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/video\/ping-insurance-hikes-dividend-012935333.html?format=embed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4>Highlights:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Net profit in H1-2017,\u00a0reached to 43.4 billion yuan (US$6.5 billion), an increase of with 6.5 percent compared with the first six months of 2016.<\/li>\n<li>After excluding a 9.5 billion yuan gain from internal restructuring in the first half of 2016, profit growth was 38.8 percent year on year.<\/li>\n<li class=\"v2-processed\">The insurer\u2019s total premium income was 341.39 billion yuan in the first half of 2017, compared with 256.87 billion yuan in the year-ago period.<\/li>\n<li class=\"v2-processed\">Equity attributable to shareholders of the parent company amounted to 425.9 million yuan, up 11 percent from the beginning of the year.<\/li>\n<li class=\"v2-processed\">The company proposed an interim dividend of 0.5 yuan per share for the six months ended June 30, 150 percent higher that the same period last year.\n<ul>\n<li class=\"v2-processed\">The payment date is set for October 16, 2017, for which the ex-dividend date is set for September 4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Based on the news Ping An shares surged as much as 3.3 percent Friday to an all time high of HKD 60.20 a shares, as can be seen from below chart.<\/p>\n<p><a noreferrer\">Most Honored Company<\/a>&#8221; in\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Asia<\/span>\u00a0and took<span id=\"spanHghlt176e\">\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0first place in almost all eligible categories for the insurance sector.<\/p>\n<h3>PGM CAPITAL ANALYSIS &amp; COMMENTS:<\/h3>\n<h4>Palladium:<\/h4>\n<p>Over 50 percent of the Palladium supply is used in the automotive industry to create catalytic converters, which reduce the amount of carbon monoxide emitted from automobiles.<\/p>\n<p>Palladium is also used in jewelry,\u00a0dentistry,\u00a0watch\u00a0making, blood sugar test strips, aircraft\u00a0spark plugs,\u00a0surgical instruments, and\u00a0electrical contacts.\u00a0Palladium is also used to make professional\u00a0transverse (concert or classical) flutes.<\/p>\n<p>As a commodity, palladium\u00a0bullion\u00a0has\u00a0ISO currency codes\u00a0of XPD and 964.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/palladium-580x290.png\"><img target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Norilsk Nickel<\/a>\u00a0(MNOD.L) said\u00a0earlier this week that it expects consumption of palladium to reach an all-time high of 10.8 million ounces this year.<\/p>\n<p>On our advise several of our clients own physical Palladium in their portfolio, based on the pattern of the all time Palladium chart, we can expect a correction in the short term, due to this we advised our client to take some profit by trimming their Palladium holdings and wait for the correction to increase the Palladium holdings in their portfolio.<\/p>\n<p><a share, exceeded the HKD 2.29 per share expectation of the analysts covering the company, which also exceeded last year&#8217;s results for the same period by 6.58%.<\/p>\n<section class=\"mod-3-piece-app__visual-container mod-ui-conditional-hide\">\n<div class=\"mod-3-piece-app__visual-container__chart\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Screen-Shot-2017-08-19-at-11.48.41-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15977\" class=\"mod-3-piece-app__visual-container__chart\">The company&#8217;s semi H1-2017 revenues were HKD 503.14billion, and much better than the HKD 310.99billion estimated by the analysts covering the class=\"mod-3-piece-app__visual-container__chart\">It is also worth mentioning, that the H1-2017 revenue was 106.5 percent above the prior year&#8217;s period results.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>As can be seen from below chart, Ping An Insurance Group Co. shares have soared almost 56 percent this year.<\/p>\n<p><a
