In response to popular opinion,\u00a0Justin Trudeau, the leader of the\u00a0Liberal Party of Canada, committed while campaigning during the\u00a02015 federal election\u00a0to legalize cannabis for recreational use.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17887\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/440px-Justin_Trudeau_in_Lima_Peru_-_2018_41507133581_cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17887\" class=\"wp-image-17887\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/440px-Justin_Trudeau_in_Lima_Peru_-_2018_41507133581_cropped-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/440px-Justin_Trudeau_in_Lima_Peru_-_2018_41507133581_cropped-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/440px-Justin_Trudeau_in_Lima_Peru_-_2018_41507133581_cropped.jpg 440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17887\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Liberal Party of Canada won the election with 184 seats, allowing the party to form a\u00a0majority government\u00a0with Trudeau as\u00a0Prime Minister.<\/p>\n<p>The plan was to remove cannabis possession for personal consumption from the\u00a0<a title=\"Controlled Drugs and Substances Act\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Controlled_Drugs_and_Substances_Act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Controlled Drugs and Substances Act<\/a>; however, new laws would be enacted to strengthen punishment of those convicted of either supplying cannabis to minors, or of impairment while driving a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation to legalize cannabis for recreational use (<a title=\"Cannabis Act\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cannabis_Act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cannabis Act<\/a>, Bill C-45) was passed by the\u00a0House of Commons of Canada\u00a0in late November 2017; it passed second reading in the\u00a0Senate of Canada\u00a0on 22 March 2018.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>On 18 June 2018, the House passed the bill with most, but not all, of the Senate&#8217;s amendments. The Senate accepted this version of the Act the following day.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the next day that recreational use of cannabis would no longer violate criminal law as of 17 October 2018.<\/p>\n<h3>WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 17, 2018:<\/h3>\n<p>Across the country, as government pot retailers opened from Newfoundland to British Columbia, jubilant Canadians waited for hours in line to buy the first state-approved joints.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/video\/embed\/4565022\/\" width=\"670\" height=\"372\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For many, it was a seminal moment, akin to the ending of Prohibition in the United States in the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>Cannabis\u00a0was \u201cflying off the shelves\u201d in retail outlets and online stores across the country as soon as the clock struck midnight Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The demand was so high that pot stores reported running low or completely out of cannabis on the first day.<\/p>\n<p>So how much weed did Canadians purchase on legalization day?<\/p>\n<p>Below video gives a breakdown of the cannabis sales by province.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/video\/embed\/4573593\/\" width=\"670\" height=\"372\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>PGM CAPITAL\u2019s COMMENTS &amp; ANALYSIS:<\/h3>\n<p class=\"article__dek hed-l m-b-5-xs\">The first day of legalization saw both brick and mortar and online stores selling out quick as Canadians tried to get their hands on legal bud.<\/p>\n<p>Canadians loved their legal weed so much that many stores\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/cannabis\/article-strong-demand-short-supplies-on-day-one-for-legal-cannabis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ran out of stock of the first day of legalized cannabis<\/a>\u00a0and no one is sure when the shortages will end.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry__content\">\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1822433-5\" data-google-query-id=\"CLSIrdvIld4CFU90wQodcXkNXQ\">\n<p id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/211645537\/TFT\/InContent_1_0__container__\">As of Thursday, provinces were sending out the proverbial SOS signal to cannabis producers in hopes of putting more marijuana on the shelves.<\/p>\n<p>Legions of cannabis customers flocked to both dispensaries and online to take advantage of the newly legal pot market. And while most establishments were stocked up and raring to go by the time officials sales were permitted to get underway, the supply just wasn\u2019t enough to keep up with the extreme demand.<\/p>\n<p>Some early predictions suggested that the nation needed in upwards of 2 million pounds of weed to meet the demand. Health Canada recognized the potential supply problem and ramped up production efforts over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>More than 70 additional cultivation facilities were employed to increase the supply. Even still, no one had any idea how much marijuana was retail ready by the time the stores opened their doors on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Aurora Cannabis IPO:<\/h4>\n<p>Aurora Cannabis Inc.\u00a0said on Thursday October 18, that its shares have been approved for trading on the New York Stock Exchange and will start to do so on October 23, under the ticker symbol &#8220;ACB&#8221;. The shares are currently traded on the Toronto Stock under the ticker symbol ACB.TO.<\/p>\n<p>During the latest quarter, the company&#8217;s revenues soared by 223% and became profitable, by making a profit of CAD 69 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm\" data-reactid=\"19\">During fiscal 2018, ACB.TO has pulled off 11 acquisitions, having bolstered the product line as well as the production capacity. Considering that there are currently two fully operational facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm\" data-reactid=\"19\">The company has also received a license for 120,000 kg\/year facility and there is a joint venture in Denmark to build the largest facility in Europe, with 1 million sq. ft. The joint company intends to grow and produce cannabis that will be sold throughout Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Subsequently, in accordance with the growth rate, they intend to market to other EU countries as well.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"19\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Aurora-Cannabis-678x381.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17805\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Aurora-Cannabis-678x381-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Aurora-Cannabis-678x381-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pgmcapital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Aurora-Cannabis-678x381.png 678w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm\" data-reactid=\"20\">In fact, Aurora has been doubling down on the European opportunity. One of its business units, Aurora Deutschland GmbH, is the largest distributor of cannabis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"canvas-atom canvas-text Mb(1.0em) Mb(0)--sm Mt(0.8em)--sm\" data-reactid=\"20\">Note that the company is one of the few licensed cannabis producers that has an E.U.
